Newcastle Coal Train action, 7-13-08As promised, more than 1,000 protesters disrupted one of two rail lines into the world’s largest coal export port on July 13. The action was part of Australia’s Camp for Climate Action.

About a dozen protesters managed to get onto the rail line and lock down to trains entering the Carrington Coal Terminal in Newcastle. The rail line was shut down for a full day, and 37 people were arrested.

The next day, four activists locked down to a coal conveyor belt at the same port.
