Obama with construction workersWell, the election season is over — now it’s time to get ready for the challenges of organizing against the system in a political climate dominated by Democrats.

Of course, we know that no election will ever lead to a significant change in the system that is enslaving and killing all life on this planet. Already, we can see a glimmer of the terror to come under a President Obama and a Democratic Congress, just as we would have under McCain and the Republicans:

“Democrats in Congress have been calling for another stimulus package that may include tens of billions of dollars for domestic construction projects to repair aging roads, bridges and other infrastructure. Obama has been supportive of infrastructure spending as a way to create jobs – something that will no doubt take on greater urgency on Friday when the government releases its October employment figures. The report is expected to show 200,000 jobs lost in October, which would make it the weakest month of the year.” (emphasis ours)

Of course, it’s the same infrastructure that the Republicans would back — but with a blue-collar spin! Doubtless there’s plenty of greenwashing around the corner, too.

So while we may have slightly different challenges in the coming years, ultimately it’s still the same fight that it’s always been. We’re still fighting to tear down the system that enslaves us; to destroy the death machine that is killing our planet — to create a world that embodies our best and highest dreams.

UPDATE (Nov. 6 2008): Already the pro-Obama, pro-infrastructure greenwashing is coming out in full force. Check out this press release from the pro-infrastructure environmental nonprofit Friends of the Earth.
