US’s First Offshore Wind Plant Advances
Jan 6th, 2009
The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection has approved the construction of undersea cables to allow the country’s first offshore wind-generated power plant to transmit electricity to the mainland.
The planned Cape Wind project would consist of 130 247-foot-tall wind turbines roughly 5 miles off the coast of Cape Cod. A handful of local, state and federal permits are still needed before the project can go forward, but developers expect to acquire them all by March.
