Indiana Residents: Write to Cut I-69 Funding!
Feb 2nd, 2009
Bloomington Against I-69 has put out a call for Indiana residents to write or call their state representatives in support of a bill that would take away all the funding currently earmarked for I-69. The bill, HB 1656, would redirect the $1.5 billion to “local road maintenance and improvements” instead, and would prevent vocal I-69 advocate Governor Mitch Daniels from accessing any federal economic stimulus funds that the state receives.
UPDATE: Roadblock Earth First! has informed us that while HB 1656 would indeed give the legislature rather than the governor power over I-69 and economic stimulus funding, “the legislature is also a majority in favor of i-69, so there’s no indication that they would do much about nix-ing the funding.”
