This summer action camps, and campaigns inviting people to stop in and throw down for a bit, are on the rise. Here are just a few places to check out if you want to get away from home for a bit, and take action to defend the earth.
Earth First! Rendezvous: This will be a 7-day campout (July 1-7), a gathering of resistance to dirty, destructive energy extraction. We will focus on primarily: Fracking, shale defense, mutual aid for displaced communities, Mountaintop Removal and the Tar Sands megaprojects. More info
Mountain Mobilization: Come to southern West Virginia on July 25. RAMPS will host a mobilization where people will prepare to take nonviolent direct action to shut down a strip mine. We are calling for as many people as possible to come together and do what the politicians, the regulators and the courts have been unwilling to do; to defend the land and the people; to stop strip mining. No Coal Exports: West By Northwest, a No Coal Exports Action Camp will be convened by High Country Rising Tide, Rising Tide North America and host of other environmental and community organizations. On August 2-10, hundreds of people from a broad coalition of workers, seniors, ranchers, students, local residents, environmentalists, and more – will converge in in Wyoming’s Powder River Basin at West By Northwest, a No Coal Exports Action Camp, to build constructive solutions to preventable human and environmental catastrophes related to coal exports. Earth First! Journal: The Earth First! Journal Collective is hosting a Volunteer Work Week for July 16-20th. The kickoff is Saturday and Sunday (14th & 15th) with a camp out in the Everglades watershed (location TBA), including a possible canoe trip on the Loxahatchee river. More info
The Trans’ and Womyn’s Action Camp (TWAC): The Trans’ and Womyn’s Action Camp is a gathering of eco-activists, who are also working to bring down patriarchy. TWAC is for folks who identify as any variety of gender variant and marginalized genders. There will be space to share skills in a supportive, empowering and encouraging environment. The ourth Annual TWAC will be from August 29th to September 3rd. More info
Climbing Camp: July 14th to 20th in Oregon, the EF! Climbers Guild will be hosting a climbing camp. The week will be climb training from basic rope set up to more advanced structure rigging. More info
